Of Stones and Bones Stadtmuseum St. Poelten (A)

Following the completion of the 10-year archaeological excavation on St. Poelten Domplatz, the Stadtmuseum St. Poelten will present the new findings from the archaeological research project in 2024 as part of the temporary exhibition "Von Steinen und Beinen - Die wechselvolle Geschichte eines Platzes, der keiner war". Since 2022, bogner.knoll has been involved in the content development and created both a general and detailed concept for the exhibition together with the project team, which emphasises the eventful history of the Domplatz. The three thematic complexes "Roman Settlement", "Monastery and Churches" and "Cemetery" will structure the exhibition. In order to enable visitors to understand the largely fragmentary finds in their original form and use, the exhibition will focus strongly on the presentation of reconstructions and the integration of hands-on and media stations.

In order to actively involve cross-generational visitor groups, particularly families with children, bogner.knoll is currently developing a family bag with a brochure to accompany the exhibition. In addition to textual information in simple language, the brochure is intended to support the playful discovery and exploration of objects and give children an age-appropriate insight into archaeological practices through riddles and tasks. Tactile-cognitive and emotional experiences are combined to encourage reflection and create participatory, meaningful experiences in addition to knowledge transfer. While some elements can be completed within the exhibition, others encourage in-depth exploration at home and thus create long-term learning experiences.
