The city of Friedrichshafen wishes to extend the Zeppelin Museum based on three conceptual columns in medium term: industrial history, urban history and art history. The objective is a significant spatial and functional expansion of the museum with new buildings and extensions, since the presentation of the collections has been suffering from unfavourable and cramped spatial conditions for some time now. Also, the expansion of the collection is reaching capacity limits with regard to the currently available depot space.
bogner.knoll has been commissioned to develop a rough museological concept, taking into account existing plans and concepts. After detailed discussion of the future use, visitor orientation and overall logistics, bogner.knoll is to outline a spatial and functional programme for the new building and its connection with the old building, but also to consider the future function of the old building.
