Ambras Foyer, Ambras CastleInnsbruck, Tyrol (A)

The Ambras Foyer was opened in the former Bauernrüstkammer at Ambras Castle in the middle of April. In the redesigned entrance to the Spanish Hall and the Upper Castle, visitors no longer learn about the “love story” of Archduke Ferdinand II. and his wife Philippine Welser. Instead, they will be introduced to the wealth of superb objects in the collections to be discovered.

Katharina Knoll developed the content of the concept for the exhibition and supervised its implementation in terms of graphics and design. The aim was to create a bright, airy and inviting foyer area which should arouse curiosity about a visit to the castle area and the exhibitions, predominantly through large-format graphic elements and pictures of exhibits as well as concise headings. Interactive media and film stations supplement the overall picture and provide explanatory, in-depth insights into the world of the Renaissance. Thus, in addition to the real view, there are also virtual views of the park, insights into the culinary arts of the time or the opportunity to take a look at the ground on which the castle was built through the eyes of a geologist.
