The art and cultural history collection of the Salzburg Museum (formerly the Salzburger Museum Carolino Augusteum) is being exhibited at the renovated and adapted rooms of the New Residential Palace in the city centre since 2007.
Exhibition projects and mediation tools
bogner.cc created a detailed content concept for the permanent exhibition on the second floor, which broke with traditional chronological, linear narrative form. Particular emphasis was placed on contemporary mediation methods, making use of interactive media and hands-on stations for children.
The rooms are divided into two thematic sections: the first section explores the Salzburg myth shaped by Romanticism and investigates its relevance for today. This part of the exhibition particularly takes a critical look at the city’s development into a tourist magnet and its corresponding transformation into an economic hub. The second section, located in the state rooms of the New Residential Palace, analyses connections between the absolutist reign of the prince-archbishops and the emergence of the Baroque residenz city.
The concept for the Salzburg Museum was already a central part of the museum master plan for Salzburg developed by bogner.cc. Another project based on this master plan, the DomQuartier Salzburg, was implemented under the curatorial supervision of bogner.cc.
