In the context of the 100th anniversary of the Austrian Federal Constitution in 2020, the Austrian Constitutional Court commissioned bogner.knoll to design a touring exhibition as an opportunity for visitors to learn about the Austrian Constitution and the work of the Constitutional Court at various locations in Austria. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the launch had to be postponed by almost a year, but on 3 May 2021 the infopoint for the Centenary of the Constitutional Court was finally opened in Graz.
bogner.knoll developed the concept for the content in close cooperation with the team of the Constitutional Court. The greatest challenge was the reduction and condensation of such a complex subject and its visual communication. Three guiding questions were defined for visitors to the infopoint: What does the Constitution, what does the Constitutional Court, and what does the protection of fundamental rights have to do with me?
For project implementation, a multi-layered approach was adopted: Illustrations, infographics, lift-the-flap elements, hands-on and media stations were combined to create a lively presentation of the basic principles of the Austrian Constitution, the tasks and responsibilities of the Constitutional Court as the “Guardian of the Constitution”, and the court’s working methods. Audio descriptions and text reading functions, explanatory tactile elements and sign language videos are included to make the exhibition barrier-free.
