In 2006, bogner.cc created a master plan, which investigated Salzburg`s museum landscape and developed suggestions for a repositioning of the institutions described. The central element of the plan, the Salzburg Trilogy, conceptually brought together the three most important historical building complexes in Salzburg–the fortress, the buildings around the Cathedral Square and the New Residential Palace–each under one specific theme.
Salzburg Museum: The Salzburg Myth
This exhibition is based on significant events important to the city and province of Salzburg that took place around 1800: the secular reign of the archbishops ended and Salzburg’s civil society came into being. This part of the Salzburg Trilogy focuses on several historically important phenomena from these two epochs and investigates their relevance for Salzburg today. The Salzburg Museum in the New Residential Palace was reopened in 2007.
DomQuartier Salzburg: Heaven and Earth in One Hand
The second core theme of the museum master plan is based on the double historical role of the prince-archbishops as secular and spiritual leaders. A fascinating tour through Salzburg’s former centre of power was created by reuniting the Cathedral complex and New Residential Palace complex, which originally formed a unit, complemented by the exhibitions of the Residenzgalerie as well as collections of the Cathedral Museum and St. Peter’s Abbey. It was opened to the public as DomQuartier Salzburg in 2014.
Hohensalzburg Fortress: Salzburg’s Ascent to Power
For Hohensalzburg Fortress, the museum master plan envisions a thematic focus on the history and culture of the city from the early Middle Ages to 1500. This part has not yet been implemented.
