Comics as a mediation tool
Salzburger Burgen und Schloesser Betriebsfuehrung commissioned bogner.cc with the conception and implementation of the content for a mobile visitor guide. Katharina Knoll developed short stories based on historical material and anecdotes for selected locations at Hohensalzburg Fortress, Hohenwerfen Fortress, Mauterndorf Castle and Salzburg Residenz Palace, which then were realized as comics (“Comics & Guide”). Different aspects of history are highlighted depending on the location and, together, the comics provide a complete overview of the reign of the prince-archbishops in Salzburg.
The aim of the project was to find an approach that differs from the conventional content mediation frequently seen in visitor guidance systems and to find a way of telling stories that equally appeals to both younger and older visitors.
