Dieter Bogner and Katharina Knoll were commissioned by private Chinese developers “Wide Horizon” to create a museum concept and provide client consultancy services for the planned Chengdu Contemporary Art Museum. Their tasks were to provide support during the design and construction process up until gallery opening, including organisational, personnel and budget planning.
The museum project encompasses a new three-storey building with exhibition spaces and a panorama lounge as well as a two-story underfloor construction housing a 400 m2 and 8 m high exhibition and event hall, a children’s area and a restaurant. The planned Contemporary Art Museum is the first of its kind in Chengdu and is to show the relationship between international contemporary art and innovative Chinese artistic developments.
